With more and more of us working from home, it’s never been more important to have a comfy nook to call your own. Whether you’re new to working from home or an experienced remote worker, take some time to evaluate your setup and make sure it’s working for you.
Is your space cluttered?
Trying to focus when you’re surrounded by clutter can seem impossible at times, so be sure to clear yourself a space to work in. Setting up a desk in a room surrounded by boxes of Christmas decorations isn’t a sustainable way to work. Have a rummage through your junk room and try to cut down or find somewhere else to store the clutter, for example, the attic or a shed.
Do you have everything you need?
There’s nothing worse than sitting down to start work and then realising that you don’t have those all-important files. Or maybe you’d just feel better with a few nicknacks from the office like a calendar and a second screen? If your work setup isn’t right, talk to your employer and ask for some extra bits and pieces to make you even more efficient.
Are you comfortable?
Perching on a stool or even a dining chair isn’t good for you, especially if you’re going to be sitting in the same spot for a while. It may not be the first thing that crosses your mind when setting up, but you really do need to make sure that your home office is as comfortable as possible. Opt for a thick fluffy carpet, some nice cushions, and a chair that supports your back while you work.
If you have a fairly small office space we would definitely recommend a thick pile carpet in a neutral colour. It will brighten up the room and generally make the area more comfortable, while also maximising the space available. Part of the joy of working from home is getting away from hard office floors and resting your feet on some sumptuously soft carpet.
