3 Qs to ask before carpeting a home office space

An increasing amount of us are working partially or fully from home. Whether you run your own business or simply work online, it is important to keep your home office a stress free place. We’ve gathered together a few questions for you to ask yourself, to help you achieve better organisation, calmer ambience and peaceful design to allow you to be as productive as possible when working from home.

How big is my office space?

If you have a big space and need to move around between desks, storage and any kind of planning/noticeboards you may best invest in a classic office chair. A comfortable, practical chair is vital for your productivity. If this is the case you’d be better off with laminate flooring which will make it much easier to roam around the room without leaving your chair.

Top tip: low pile carpet can help a roller chair move about and strategically placed mats will help maintain carpets in areas of concentrated wear.

If you have a fairly small office space we would definitely recommend a thick pile carpet in a neutral colour. It will brighten up the room and generally make the space more comfortable. Part of the joy of working from home is getting away from hard office floors and resting your feet on some lovely soft carpet.

How can I brighten up this room?

If you’ve read this blog before you’ll know that we love neutral colours. They make any room look bigger and even better, they are the perfect base for some accessory coordination. If you choose a beige, or even better ‚Äògreige’ carpet, the possibilities are endless. Keep a consistent theme throughout your accessories. You could for example add a few splashes of magenta, blue or green through cushions, curtains, rugs and light fixtures.

Where can I relax?

We know, it seems like an odd question to ask of your home office, but you need to make sure you a comfy area to sit back and relax every now and then. While we appreciate that you won’t have much time to spend in your comfy corner, it is worth adding a comfortable chair, plenty of cushions and, if you don’t have carpet throughout the room, a nice thick fluffy rug for your feet to sink into. Even the presence of your cosy corner will help you feel calm and relaxed, and boost your productivity.

Essentially, it all comes down to allowing yourself to be comfortable in your work space. No one likes being cooped up in a small dark cold room with nothing but a wooden desk, wooden floor and squeaky chair. Soften your room with neutral thick pile carpets or vibrant rugs for a classy, coordinated and most importantly, comfortable office space.
